Economic and trade relations between China and Germany have developed well over recent years, but competition between the two economies is gradually increasing. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on economic and trade exchanges between China and Germany. The global industrial and supply chain has been disrupted, and this has brought new challenges to Sino-German economic relations. Taking the pandemic as backdrop, this paper analyzes the challenges of Sino-German economic relations from the macro, investment and value chain levels;it then explores the economic resilience and mutual dependence of the two countries from these three perspectives. We find that although the pandemic has had a negative impact on economic and trade relations, economic cooperation between the two sides has entered a new stage of development because of growing bilateral trade and the deepening integration of the machinery and automobile sector. China’s new round of opening-up policies will provide an impulse for the economic recovery of both countries in the post-pandemic period.
