<<This study analyses the internet’s impact on Chinese minors’ cognition, behaviour and emotions in their socialization. It covers the general state, trends and characteristics of such issues, identifies problems and offers policy recommendations. It is based on the 2010-2020 data from the annual Internet Use by Minors in China reports, published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ Institute of Journalism and Communication Studies. It also integrates results of local and foreign similar studies. The study has the following findings:Parents are more open-minded about minors’ internet use. Entertainment is the dominant form of use. Online idioms are entering everyday life. Minors’ social participation and self-expression are acquaintance-based and observational. While enabling quick retrieval of information, internet use also eats into the time available for other social activities. The internet has completely penetrated the minor group. Minors are aware of their behaviour and are well self-disciplined. However, there are factors that may have negative impacts. They include rampant advertising, low awareness of legality, low use of child mode functionalities, excessive time spent online and lower physical fitness. Guardians, schools and socity should work together to provide a clean cyberspace.
