The Beijiang Channel Expansion and Upgrade Project is another important measure for Guangdong to build the Xijiang and Beijiang golden waterways and promote vigorously the construction of inland waterways and shipping development. In August 2014，in order to implement the national “Pearl River-Xijiang Economic Belt Development Plan”，the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government made a strategic deployment which systematically promoted in two stages to accelerate the expansion and upgrading of the Beijiang Channel. Over the years，the construction of Beijiang Channel had achieved decisive results in 2020.
