The operation mechanism of our country’s labor market has undergone a significant revolution since the reform and opening up，with labor’s mobility growing remarkably. The migrant labor entering Shanghai from different parts of China has become the main force driving Shanghai to innovate，transform and develop as a constituent part of Shanghai’s urban population. Under the social background of “scrambling for the working population” escalating without cease，in Shanghai，migrant labor’s behavior in the matter of job hunting and their employment status assume distinct characteristics of the times，group features and regional uniqueness. Under new circumstances，there is a need to comprehensively and systematically study the employment status of migrant labor，for meeting the objective requirements of studying and judging the employment situation，laying down employment policy and improving employment service，which is also practically required for pushing the quality development of Shanghai’s economic society.
