To investigate the status quo of adult residents’ tobacco use and the government’s tobacco control efforts, and to scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of the 2015 Beijing Smoking Control Regulation, during March to August 2019,the Department of Health Education,Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducted the third wave of Beijing Adult Tobacco Survey. The current smoking prevalence of Beijing adults aged 15 and older was 20.3% in 2019,37.1% for males and 2.4% for females. The smoking prevalence dropped by 2% from year 2016,3.1% from 2014. 31.6% of the current smokers had tried to quit in the past 12 months, and 16.2% of them was planning to quit in the next 12 months. Among all the past and current smokers,31.3% had already quit. 30.0% of Beijing adults were exposed to secondhand smoke at home. 27.0% were exposed at indoor workplace. The rate of secondhand smoke exposure in public places,as ordered from high to low by the type of venues were bars/nightclubs (71.2%),restaurants (42.5%),while waiting in line (40.4%),primary and secondary schools (34.9%),universities (16.1%),government buildings (8.6%),health care facilities (6.9%) and public transports (2.2%). The results showed that the adult smoking prevalence in Beijing was declining steadily, and that the 2015 Regulation was overall effective. We suggested that male middle-aged and elderly people, females and youth should be key target populations of future tobacco control interventions. More efforts should be paid to the enforcement of the existing smoking control legislation,as well as public education of tobacco harm knowledge.
