Over the past 70 years since the founding of new China，China has made great efforts to develop its economy and constantly improve people’s livelihood，so that the outcome of reform can benefit the general public. China’s social security system has also made great progress. The outbreak of Covid-19 in early 2020 has brought great challenges to China’s social security system. In order to cope with the impact of Covid-19，China has taken a series of measures，such as reducing the medical expenses of patients from medical insurance，reducing the social security payment of enterprises in terms of unemployment insurance，and helping enterprises to survive the winter. Although social insurance has played an important role in dealing with the current situation，some problems have also been exposed，such as the excessive dependence of social security fund on financial support，the low level of overall planning，and the poor connection between regions. 2021 is the first year of the 14th Five Year Plan. At that time，new layout and requirements will be put forward for China’s social security system. Effective implementation of the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee will also be an important development direction of social security in the future.
