The digital economy，in which data is the new means of production，requires new infrastructure as its support. Essentially，new infrastructure is to comprehensively support the development of a “digital China” in the digital era. This article proposes the new infrastructure architecture system，which comprises digital upgrade of infrastructure，new commercial industrial infrastructure，new social service infrastructure，and digital government governance infrastructure. It analyzes new infrastructure’s characteristics that distinguishes it from classical infrastructure. The article also illustrates the special value of new infrastructure in four aspects from the perspective of sustainable development. the article ends with an examination of Alibaba’s understanding and practice of new infrastructure，and a prospect on the development of new infrastructure.
