The urban environmental management evaluation in 2017 is a continuation of the urban environmental management evaluation in 2016. In order to ensure the consistency and comparability of the results，these two evaluations share the same indicators and weight distribution. Based on the 2016-2017 evaluation results，this report compares and analyzes the environmental management level of 36 key cities in China from both horizontal and vertical dimensions. The vertical comparison shows that the overall level of urban environmental management increased steadily in 2017 with a slight growth in the average score；from 2016 to 2017，the ranking of urban environmental management level changed dramatically with a high dispersion，some of which fluctuated significantly. The horizontal comparison shows that the top ten cities in 2017 had some weaknesses which influence their environmental management performance；significant differences existed in different regions in terms of their urban environmental management level.
