In the context of the “National Fitness” and “Healthy China” strategy，the walking event has become an important way for urban residents to participate in fitness and an important carrier for the development of sports tourism in various places. The development of walking event has experienced three stages：the first stage is the generation of voluntary organizations，the second stage is jointly promoted by government departments and industry organizations，and in the third stage，market-oriented and branded operations are promoted through business organizations. At present，the development of China’s walking event has the following characteristics，namely：（1）government-leading，association cooperation，and company operations have become the main operating modes；（2）the natural activities，distribution areas and route types are becoming more and more diverse；（3）the event brands have initially taken shape，and the participation and standardization of large-scale festivals have continued to increase. At the same time，there are also issues such as the sustainability of activities under the government-led model，the coordination of resources under the model of social force promotion，and the lack of professionalism of event organization based on the special characteristics of the walking events. In order to promote the healthy and sustainable development of walking event in China，the four countermeasures are proposed，namely：（1）give full play to the leading forces of society and establish an integrated and coordinated development mechanism；（2）integrate various resources and enrich the content form（3）strengthen research，learn from case experience，and improve the profession level of event organization；（4）prepare risk prevention and control plans and strengthen safety assurance capabilities.
