Folk tales are the cultural treasures of all ethnic groups. With the development of social economy，folk tales are faced with inheritance crisis due to the change of living environment. Based on the study of the virtual value，formation environment and inheritance status of Tujia folk tales in Changyang，Hubei province，this paper firstly analyzes the difficulties faced by the inheritance of traditional folk tales in the modern information technology environment. Secondly，with the popularization of smart phones，this paper discusses the modern inheritance mode of folk tales and analyzes its feasibility and necessity. Finally，the WeChat model for the inheritance and development of folk tales is proposed，including the inheritance concept，technology，form and content of the WeChat model，which provides new ideas for the inheritance and development of folk tales in China.
