Traditional festival customs are closely related to people’s needs，social changes，values，and economic development. However，under the rapid development of globalization，these customs are strongly influenced by impacts of informatization，marketization，and modernization. As a result，they have formalized，superficial，commercial，and vulgar trends. And cultural inheritance is facing a serious crisis. But the good news is that digital protection technology，as an important means of protecting intangible cultural heritage，provides a new path for cultural heritage. This paper mainly takes celebrating the Tujia’s “New Year” in the Youshui River Basin as an example，briefly describes the status quo and important role of digital protection of intangible cultural heritage，and points out the main path of digital technology inheritance.
