In recent years, the politics and diplomacy of Francophone African countries have shown their original characteristics and new developments. In terms of domestic politics, the vast majority of Francophone African countries can achieve a peaceful transition of political power or only a certain degree of unrest within the political framework stipulated in the Constitution, while only a few countries will seriously affect their domestic political development because of the presidential election. The issue of “the third term” has become an important concept for scholars to discuss the political development of Francophone African countries. At the regional security level,Francophone Africa is still the region where violent conflicts converge in the world, especially in West and Central Africa, where extremist forces and anti-government separatists still exist. In addition, pirates in the Gulf of Guinea are also beginning to threaten the economic and trade security of coastal Francophone African countries. In the diplomatic field,Francophone African countries and neighboring countries insist on peaceful settlement of territorial boundaries and other disputes, and actively participate in the process of African integration. Francophone African countries are also involved in the diplomatic game of Middle East countries. In recent years, closer exchanges with China have become an important opportunity for the further development of Francophone African countries themselves. 2019 as the Francophone African election year,a large number of countries will hold presidential or parliamentary elections, while the activities of frequent extremist organizations in West Africa at the beginning of 2019 test the ability of Francophone African countries to cope with non-traditional security.
