Economics discipline in Hubei has entered a new era of development and made great progress in 2018，especially in the fields of finance，macroeconomics and finance. This report is based on the public academic papers number and academic influence of 11 Chinese top journals in economics，comparing with those of Beijing，Shanghai，Zhejiang，Jiangsu and Hunan. It finds that the development level of economics discipline of Hubei is second only to Beijing and Shanghai both in quantity and quality in 2018，slightly better than Jiangsu，and the gap with Shanghai is very small. In view of the existing problems of economics in Hubei，the following measures should be implemented：strengthen the inter-disciplinary communication，refine the subject direction，continue to improve the level of teachers staff，improve various research platforms，and give full play to the role of the research base of humanities and social sciences. In the future，there still exists broad space for the development for economics in Hubei in three aspects：constructing the economic theory system with Chinese characteristics，consolidating the basic economic theory，strengthening the research on Hubei’s characteristic economic problems，and building “Hubei economics school”.
