This report analyzes the development of the automotive industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and obtains the following findings:(1)Since 2000,there has not been a reasonable ratio between vehicle manufacturing and parts production in the Greater Bay Area;(2)Since 2002,the number of vehicles exported by Zhejiang has always been the first,and the Greater Bay Area should carefully study its experience;(3)From 2000 to 2005,the number of vehicles imported from Guangdong accounted for 16.07%-23.93% of the country and 2013-2017,the proportion dropped to 0.23%-0.98%,indicating that Guangdong automobile consumers now mainly buy domestic cars;(4)the development of the automotive industry in the Greater Bay Area is too dependent on foreign joint ventures;(5)The national automotive industry profit margin was 8.6% in 2017,and Guangdong’s profit margin was 7.9%. The quality of the development of the automotive industry in the Greater Bay Area needs to be improved;(6)the development of commercial and passenger vehicles in the Greater Bay Area is extremely uneven;(7)the Greater Bay Area Auto parts products generally have low technological content and are at the low-end level in the value chain. This report also analyzes the favorable conditions for the development of the automotive industry in the Greater Bay Area,and finally gives suggestions for improving the quality of the automotive industry.
