As the only treatment for corneal blindness，artificial corneas have been widely applied in the corneal field at both home and abroad in the past 20 years. As of now，four kinds of artificial corneas have been created and developed for clinical application on a global scale，consisting of Boston Type Keratoprosthesis，Osteo-Odonto Keratoprosthesis，MICOF Keratoprosthesis and AlpharCor Keratoprosthesis，among which Boston type keratoprosthesis has been widely applied in the world. In China，although there is not any keratoprosthesis completedly made by artificial material synthesis on the market，Chinese ophthalmology experts from the General Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army（also known as Hospital 301），Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University and Shandong Provincial Ophthalmic Hospital have formed a research team and plumbed the depths of research about artificial corneas for more than 20 years，thereby obtaining abundant results from researches. Nowadays，a Collar-buckle type Keratoprosthesis developed independently according to the the structural features of Chinese patients’ corneas and ocular surface has successfully completed a series of tests and trials，thereby reaching satisfactory results. Moreover，it is estimated that the launch of the Collar-buckle type Keratoprosthesis will promote the establishment of the the artificial cornea research center in China，thus promoting the development of the field of artificial corneas research and discipline of corneas in China.
