县中的孩子是贫富差别和城乡差别两个维度叠加构成的连续统一体中的一端,他们是在以追求优质教育为名的教育改革中被忽视的一群受教育者。本文以几个县域内的学生的自我定位、学业选择、课余生活、家庭环境和未来期待几个方面的片段描述为组件,构成一幅县中的孩子面貌的大致轮廓,从而呈现县域作为中国基础教育的基本单位所面临的深层次问题,并叩问未来发展之路上的难题。
<<If learners in China’s education system were to be examined through the lenses of wealth and geographical location,children in the county high school would be the most disadvantaged group,being at the worse end of the rich-poor gap as well as the urban-rural divide. They are a group of learners who have been ignored by the ongoing education reform in the name of pursuing quality education. This paper takes a qualitative approach and describes county high school students’ self-identity,academic choices,after-school life,family environment,and their expectations for the future,drawing a rough picture of what it is like to be a child in the county. It examines the hidden problems counties face as the basic unit for China’s basic education and discusses obstacles for their future development.
