The year 2018 saw generally steady progress in the social and economic development of Laibin City. The major economic indicators of Laibin City grew at a faster rate than that of Guangxi Province，which was better than expected. Multiple measures were taken in Laibin to promote the construction of the Pearl River-Xijiang River Economic Belt. Efforts were made in ensuring the thorough implementation of policies on the Economic Belt. Given the advantage of transportation of the Xijiang River，the construction of a golden waterway was accelerated. The Transport Corridor project was accelerated to serve as a solid foundation for the development of the Xijiang River Economic Belt. The industrial layout was improved through guiding riverside industries towards an upgraded level of development. Progress were made in the construction of the platform for the integration into Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area，and actively promote the development in the Economic Belt. Foreign exchanges and cooperation are expanding，bringing the opening-up to a higher level. However，Laibin City is challenged with a relatively intensive economic downward pressure，an immature corridor-based economy，low efficiency of the permission for the use of shoreline of a port，weak economic foundation of the riverside region，and difficulty in raising project funds. Laibin City will proactively integrate into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will strive to promote the preliminary work of the Xijiang Economic Belt project and break the bottlenecks in the way. The specific financial funds will be increased to support the construction of the Xijiang River Economic Belt. The construction of infrastructure and outlet in riverside cities of the Economic Belt will be accelerated.
