The principle of “One Country，Two Systems” has demonstrated strong vitality and advantages in Macau，with full support of the central government，local provincial and municipal authorities，and with concerted efforts by the Special Administrative Region government and all sectors of the community. Significant progresses have been achieved in politics，the economy，society，culture and education，all of which are heading towards good development directions. This article summarises Macau’s economic achievements and its successful experience since Reunification in 1999. The key to Macau’s economic expansion and improvement of livelihood over the past 20 years is the ability to fully and correctly understand and implement the principle of “One Country，Two Systems” and the Basic Law by safeguarding the fundamental principle of “one country” and taking “two systems” to full advantage. The central government has provided beneficial policies from time to time to fully respond to the needs of Macau. The Mainland has always been the fundamental guarantee and strong backbone for Macau’s economic and social development.
