In 2019,the characteristics and trends in great power relations continued to strengthen, strategic confrontations between China and the United States escalated and expanded, and the strategic partnership between China and Russia was further enhanced. As a result of the rising confrontation among the major powers, there has been turbulence in world patterns of the international situation, rendering them more unstable and uncertain. Great power confrontations, unilateralism, protectionism, and populism continue to impact global governance and multilateral cooperation, and it is now more difficult to reach a consensus on the reform of international institutions. The hotspots in West Asia,North Africa, and the Middle East have become more serious. The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces(INF)and the DPRK and the Iranian nuclear issues have aggravated the international security situation. With the increasing pressures and sanctions from the United States against China,China faces greater challenges in its surrounding security environment and in the protection of its overseas interests.
