With the increase of the urban poor and the widen gap between urban rich and poor, urban poverty has been cause for concern. Based on statistical data, the paper estimates that China's current urban poverty line should between about 7500-8500 Yuan per capita income and the poor population may reach 50000000, about 2 times the current minimum standard and the number of insured. By the impact of regional economic disparities, the proportion of poor people is lowest in eastern, and higher in northeastern and western regions. The article begins from the root causes of urban poverty, then reference the domestic and international experience in urban anti-poverty, bring forword the strategic choice and specific countermeasures of how to release the urban poverty in China.
