Standing at the new historical starting point of the reform and opening up，the reform and development of private higher education in Henan Province is facing both great benefits and severe challenges. From the external perspective，the national policy strongly guides and supports the comprehensive deepening reform of private higher education. A new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation impels the transformation and upgrading of private higher education. External fierce competition forms an all-round impact and squeeze on private higher education. Henan’s decision to win a well-off society in an all-round way makes the Central Plains more outstanding and urgently needs private higher education exhibition. Internally，there are still some prominent contradictions and bottlenecks in the reform and development of private higher education in Henan Province. The overlapping of old and new problems and the interweaving of old and new contradictions are mainly manifested in the lagging of supporting policy construction and the lack of innovation in supporting measures，the need to strengthen party building and ideological and political work，the imperfect internal governance structure，the homogeneous competition of disciplines and the insufficient application guidance in quality and characteristics. It is not outstanding enough，the quality of teaching needs to be improved，the loss rate of teachers is high，and the shortage of talents is still outstanding. Entering the new stage and promoting the high quality development of private higher education in Henan，we should make efforts both sides. On the one hand，we need policies to give us strength. At the government level，we should emancipate our minds，innovate our ideas and strengthen our guidance and support；at the private university level，we should deepen the reform，innovate the mode and improve the quality of education and teaching in an all-round way.
