Maritime culture has now become an important driving force for the economic and social growth in the coastal areas in China，and also an important discourse system in contemporary Chinese society. First，Maritime culture has driven the social and economic development of coastal areas，while Maritime festivals，exhibitions and tourism have become new sources of social and economic growth. Second，international cooperation on Maritime culture is also a new trend. Third，Maritime culture triggers discipline integration. In addition，many traditional disciplines are connected by Maritime culture，forming new subject clusters and research directions. It will take a long time to raise public awareness about ocean and Maritime culture，leading to its prosperity. Institutional framework，dissemination strength and change of knowledge system are required，and we also need to review of the traditional thinking on sea prohibition. We summarizes the development process of China’s Maritime culture construction and analyzes the overall development of China’s Maritime culture in 2018. Maritime culture research have got rich achievement，and the Maritime culture industry （mainly coastal tourism） is booming. Research on Maritime history and archaeology is extensive，while the cultural inheritance activities of Mazu the sea goddess are widely held. The construction of sea-related museums is developing rapidly，and Maritime protection activities are in full play. The misunderstandings of Maritime culture research is analyzed，and relevant policy Suggestions are given for the development of Maritime culture in 2020.
