A brief review of the dynamics of department store industry in major countries has been conducted in this paper. It also provides the studies on the operation strategies of some important department store companies. Moreover a detailed comparison and analysis，from four aspects（growth，benefits，risks and efficiency），has been carried out to show the differences in leading department store companies in several major countries.
