The next presidential，congressional and municipal elections will be held in May 2020. The ruling party（PLD） faces pressure from internal division and external competition. If the PLD retains its unity，it is favoured to win the 2020 elections. The economy continues to perform well including fiscal improvements，strong demand for credit，reasonable inflation level，but the larger current account deficit is marked. On the labour market front，the open unemployment rate benefited from the buoyancy of economic activity. Corruption and crime are the main problems leading several protest movements. China and Dominican Republic have established diplomatic relations on May 1，2018，and signed MOU on November 2，2018. It will provide the motivation for deepening economic and trade cooperation，attracting more investment from China，as well as overall cooperation between China and Latin America.
