In Shaanxi province，the status of agriculture and rural economy remained stable and headed for the better in 2018，offering a solid base for positive public opinion. Coverage of topics related to agriculture，rural areas and farmers made a sharp year-on-year increase. Over 60 percent was carried by social media. The public responded well to the province’s notable progress in implementing the rural revitalization strategy，extraordinary achievements of the agricultural and rural reform over the past four decades，facilitation of specialty industry development as an approach to poverty alleviation，development of modern agriculture based on local resource conditions，and improvement of rural living environment. Heated debates were triggered online by the wheat field-turned makeshift parking lots in Lantian County of suburban Xi’an city，and the water pollution in Xiaohaotu township of Yulin city.
