Industry development reports are a crucial source of critical information on development trends within and across the large number of industries and industrial sectors that make up China’s economy. In this report yearbooks on industries and economic sectors published between 2001 and 2018 are evaluated in terms of the total number of titles published，featured reports，and contributing authors，and，most importantly，content quality. While these numbers have grown continuously，publications in this Pishu sub-category，which cover all industries and sectors officially recognized by the government，have often lagged behind others in terms of content quality and overall ranking. As one of the longest-running continuously published sub-categories，these reports have still a long way to go. Solid research and reliable data are crucial for boosting the quality of these reports. Needed are professional teams of researchers，more innovative research approaches，platforms that can facilitate data collection，warehousing and search，and marketing strategies customized to maximize exposure among decision-makers in the various industries and sectors.
