The findings of the survey of boarding schools in three counties of Dangchang, Qin'an and Cheng in Gansu province suggest three outstanding problems: guarantee of hardware facility construction, enhancement of professional levels of principals and teachers and improvement of students' physical and mental health. According to the poor accommodation, many rural students rent outside of schools, obstructing their studies as well as increasing the burden on peasants. There are poor quality of canteen food, inadequate supply of hot water and lack of cultural and sports activities on campus. The hidden troubles of students away from home involve physical and mental health, and traffic safety. It is recommended to increase financial input to security hardware construction, training of principals and teachers and student living allowance.
