This study analyzes the situation and characteristics of floating population in Guangzhou in recent years，and it concludes that the development of floating popu-lation in Guangzhou is faced with the following problems：the trend of gathering still exists，but the speed is slowing down；the floating population is mainly of working age，while the trend of aging has begun to emerge；the distribution is not balanced，not match with the demand of regional development，and the phenomenon of back flow to source area is becoming more and more obvious. The study shows that the floating population is of great significance to several aspects：to coordinate the popu-lation structure，to boost economic development，to vitalize new urban city and realize new urban city developmental goals. Therefore，by further optimizing the index sys-tem of the points system，by carrying out the creation of national demonstration areas for the floating population，by improving the relevant supporting policies and building a smart society，Guangzhou will lead the new standard of service management for the floating population across the country.
