As the development of social work profession，the role of rural social work in rural social governance has been recognized by different authorities. Rural social work in Sichuan Province has begun to thrive since post-disaster relief in 2008. Based on realistic situations in Sichuan，it has achieved much progress in rural community governance，poverty alleviation，populations at risk，and new service methods in internet era. However，there are many obstacles to be overcome，such as limitation of funding，professional recognition，professional individuals，and service evaluation. These obstacles need government，academic and practitioner to come together and work out solutions.
