Making clear of the capital’s developmental orientation，persisting and strengthening the core functions of Beijing are key to know the development direction of the city. In order to advance the construction of the national center，in August 2017 Beijing municipal government founded the Leading Group of Advancing the Construction of National Cultural Center. The Group will promote the construction of the national cultural center comprehensively with the undoubted cultural self-consciousness and cultural self-confidence，thus the status of the national cultural center will be further consolidated and promoted. In the year of 2018，focusing on the key issue of going all out for the capital’s cultural development，Beijing had actively undertaken the work of the cultural development in every aspect and every field. According to the analysis of this report，in the ranking of the related index in 2018，Beijing still maintained 9th in the Global City Index Ranking，ranked 22nd in the Global ranking of urban comprehensive strength，and listed in the 7th （as in 2017） in the aspect of “cultural communication” in the Global City Index Ranking. Relevant statistic shows that in the overall pattern of Chinese cities，Beijing ranked 4th in the urban comprehensive strength competitions，after HongKong，ShenZhen and Shanghai，but won the first place in urban creativity index，urban entrepreneurial innovation index，urban impact index，these suggest Beijing played a leading role in the urban overall competitiveness in Chinese cities. Analysis of relevant statistic also shows that in the first-tier cities in China，Beijing ranked first in the fields of urban cultural competitiveness，cultural impact，the influence of image communication，cultural innovation and the new culture innovation vitality，which fully suggested Beijing as the national cultural center had the solid strength and competitiveness，and the status of the national cultural center had been consolidated. Data analysis shows that the cultural construction and development of Beijing plays a leading and demonstration role in the country，but as an international communication center and the national cultural center of China，there is a certain gap between Beijing and some international cities，so the work of promoting the world cultural strength and international impact of Beijing is still very essential in the future cultural construction and development.
