<<The China Compulsory Education Quality Oversight Report presents an overall picture of Chinese students' moral,intellectual,and physical and aesthetic development in primary and lower secondary schools. Major findings are as follows:students demonstrated positive life values and commendable behaviors;students performed well in Chinese language,mathematics,and science;students generally liked their classes;most teachers were liked by students. Major problems include:an overemphasis was placed on intellectual abilities while physical and art education were underemphasized;students lacked critical thinking;students tended to have too much homework;teachers needed to improve their teaching skills;there was a low utilization rate for school teaching facilities. The following recommendations are made:speeding up the implementation of holistic education,deepening the reform of the assessment system,to standardize the management of primary and lower secondary schools,and improving teachers' professional competency.
