The research object of this report is general hospitals in prefecture-level cities（excluding provincial capitals and separately listed cities），including Chinese medicine hospitals and general hospitals affiliated to medical schools. This paper analyzes the prefecture-level city hospitals from the aspects of geographical distribution，competitiveness index and balance. The top 500 city hospitals cover more than 80% of the prefecture-level cities in the country. Prefecture-level city hospitals in Jiangsu，Guangdong，Shandong，Zhejiang and other provinces have greater competitiveness，with Jiangsu Province having the most balanced distribution.
