This essay is an analysis on the role of museums in the path of Macau’s cultural development. Based on reviewing the past，it is to point out that museums in Macau have made undoubted contribution along with the rapid urbanization，arousing and enhancing the awareness as well as the participation among the population. Nevertheless，considerable difficulties do exist in terms of its sustainability，such as inter-museum cooperation，legislation，social community responsibility，cultural preservation commensurate with economic development. It comes to the conclusion that the ultimate mission of the museums will and should be content-oriented，prioritizing the professional and quality services.
