Since the reunification with China in 1999,Macau has undergone tremendous transformation. The deregulation of the casino gambling industry in 2002 further accelerated the process of socio-economic upgrading. Although the domestic economy has become increasingly prosper,social discontent and grievances also getting stronger. This paper attempts to use various indicators to measure Macau’s recent development multi-dimensionally. Apart from objective indicators like GDP per capital,unemployment rate,household income and crime rate will be cited for evaluation,subjective indicators such as sense of happiness,major life concerns,and satisfaction towards different life domains will also be selected for close examination. After that,some of the most serious social problems will also be drawn for systematic analysis. Comment on the past and perception toward the future will be briefly explored.
