This article provides longitudinal analyses of the crime trend in Macau as well as cross-sectional comparisons of the crime rates between Macau and Hong Kong in 2009. It addresses the crime issues by primarily focusing on gambling-related crime,juvenile crime,drug crime,and technology crime. Overall,in 2009 crime and crime rate showed the following features:both the overall number of crimes and the overall crime rate largely declined. Among all types of crimes,violent crime,property crime,juvenile crime,gambling-related crime,and drug crime decreased. With rapid development of Internet technology,a large number of technology crimes came to the fore. When allocation of the criminal justice resources was concerned,the overall number of staff who worked for the criminal justice system was on the rise. Meanwhile,a number of laws were passed to regulate such crimes as cyber crime and drug crime.
