Shantytowns transformation is a project of public interest that is launched by the Chinese government for reconstructing dilapidated and old urban houses and improving the residential conditions of vulnerable households. The shantytowns transformation of Xicheng District，which serves as the core functional area of the capital，not only concerns the well-being and dignity of the people，but also relates to the image of the capital city and its social security and stability. In general，the Project for Shantytowns Transformation of the Northern Area of Xuanxi Community，the first one to be jointly implemented at both the municipality and the district levels，has achieved sound effects，which has accumulated certain experience for the work of the capital city in this regard. The article analyses main practices of Guang'anmennei Sub-district in this regard，draws some experience and proposes reflections on further improvement of the work by Xicheng District in this regard so as to make some available references for other regions.
