At present,China is confronted with severe heavy metal pollution in farmland which imposes threat its food security. This paper made a scientific evaluation of the risk of heavy metal pollution in farmland, defined the risk zones and proposed consolidation and rehabilitation modes for farmland with heavy metal pollution according to classification. The single factor pollution index, the Nemerow index, and the Hakanson potential ecological risk index were adopted to evaluate the heavy metal pollution of farmland, and the risk zones were defined according to the degree of pollution. The farmlands were classified as “Highly Safe”,“Safe”,“High Risk”,“Medium Risk” and “Low Risk” according to the results of the evaluation. Three consolidation and rehabilitation modes—“Priority for consolidation”,“Rehabilitation in consolidation” and “Consolidation after rehabilitation” were proposed according to the features of land consolidation project, which served as technical support for the consolidation and rehabilitation of the farmland with heavy metal pollution. The risk of farmland with different degrees of heavy metal pollution was evaluated and the risk zones were defined;the consolidation and rehabilitation modes for farmland with different risk degrees of heavy metal pollution were established, which provided theoretical guidance for the safe utilization of farmland with heavy metal pollution and the protection of the country’s food security.
