    通专结合与个性化发展——达特茅斯学院的本科教育及其启示

    摘要

    在常春藤盟校中,达特茅斯学院素以出类拔萃的本科教育闻名,其精髓可以概括为三个层面:首先,在教育理念上,坚持通专结合而鼓励通博;其次,在培养模式上,充分尊重学生的个性选择与自由发展,鼓励知行结合与拓展国际视野;最后,在教学机制上,普遍的小班化教学、教师对于教学工作的全心投入,以及传统教学模式、教学艺术与新技术手段的有机结合,保障了高水准的课程质量。上述经验,可以为国内高水平院校的本科教育,尤其是通识教育的发展与提升带来有益启示。

    Abstract

    Dartmouth College is famous for its high quality undergraduate education in LVY League. The essence of Dartmouth undergraduate education can be concluded in three aspects. First,it insists on the education theory that combines liberal arts and professional education while encouraging students to develop a broad horizon in different areas. Second,as for the education mode,students are encouraged to study based on their own interests and personalities,while the college will offer great opportunities of overseas study so as to not only develop world vision but also unify learning and practice. Third,in the level of teaching mechanism,the high quality curriculum is guaranteed by small class teaching,devotion of the faculty and the combination of the advantages of both traditional teaching arts and high-technology methods. All of these experiences can shed lights on the reform of undergraduate education in Chinese universities,especially for the comprehension,practice and development of liberal education.
