Since China's adoption of the reform and opening-up policy，Guangzhou has made encouraging achievements and rich experience in protecting and utilizing historical and cultural resources in Old City Area. However，due to limitation of the historical background and knowledge，there are still many problems and defects in Guangzhou's utilization and protection of historical and cultural resources in Old City Area. For example，Guangzhou's Old City Area lacks a scientific and comprehensive protection plan；damage or excessive development of historical and cultural resources is common to find in Old City Area's transformation and economic construction process. Concerning these problems，this report puts forward a new thinking perspective for better utilization and protection of historical and cultural resources in Guangzhou's Old City Area in the new era.
