In recent years，the government of Guangzhou focus on reforming and innovating social construction and modernization of urban governance. Series of reforms and innovations on community governance have been implemented，which achieved remarkable results. Some practices have formed the “Guangzhou model”，which is recognized by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the State and were implemented nationwide. Summarising such advanced developments and characteristics of community governance in Guangzhou，we also noticed that issues still persist in terms of formalization and effectiveness，for example，Guangzhou community governance requires further development，the need to further improve the connection between public service management and residents’ autonomy，strengthening the foundation for community governance，and further management of internal and international migrants. In the new era，efforts should be made to strengthen weaknesses，and make good use of community governance as a permanent cure for the modernization of urban governance.
