The distribution of state-owned medical resources in prefecture-level cities in China is as follows:the majority of hospital employees, sickbeds and assets are in urban hospitals, which is superior to the county hospitals, and primary medical institutions take the smallest proportion. Urban hospitals have an obvious advantage in providing medical service, and their drugs income is much more than the county hospitals and primary medical institutions. Primary medical institutions maintain their operation by more financial investment. The component ratio of the drug income is the lowest in urban hospitals, while this ratio is highest in the primary medical institutions, and the county hospitals are in the middle level. The higher component ratio of the drug income hospitals have, the shorter term they pay for drugs. The pharmaceutical market in prefecture-level cities grow rapidly in both 2009 and 2010.
