On November 6，2017，environmental protection volunteers broke the news on Wechat platform that there appeared cadmium-contaminated rice in Gangkoujie Town，Chaisang District，Jiujiang City，Jiangxi Province，due to pollution of Jiujiang Mining Co. Ltd. The environmental protection agency in Chaisang District responded to the cadmium-contaminated rice issue on November 10 and November 14 respectively. Reports of news media from November 11 caught public attention and the issue quickly became the focus of public opinions. The failure of related local authorities in fulfilling their supervisory duties on environment control and cadmium-contaminated rice detection aroused hot debates. Related departments of Jiujiang released a circular on December 24，initiating the accountability procedure to claim responsibility of 11 related duty officers. And public opinions gradually cooled down on December 27.
