Compared with 2016，public opinions concerning rural environment received more attention this year. Non-point pollution control in agriculture made breakthroughs in various aspects，and the keynote of “green development” was largely recognized. The comprehensive utilization of agricultural wastes，with “turning waste into resources” as its core，received extensive attention. Rural industrial and mining pollution frequently occurred，thus hot issues related to cadmium-contaminated wheat and rice drew great public attention. The effect of rural environment governance positively interacted with media publicity，which laid the foundation of public opinions concerning ecological environment improvement in rural areas. Certain common problems were revealed in environmental pollution cases in some rural areas，and the key to cooling down public opinions was to understand people’s expectations regarding those problems.
