The integration of urban and rural medical insurance systems is a necessary prerequisite to eliminate the urban-rural dual division of medical insurance resources and ensure the equal protection of basic medical insurance services. In 2017，China had continued to push forward the reform of urban-rural medical insurance，improve the legal and policy support system，unify the basic urban and rural medical insurance system policies and integrate the urban and rural medical insurance management system. So far，a unified urban and rural medical insurance system has been established in China，breaking the pattern of urban and rural division in relation to basic medical insurance. Urban and rural residents have equal access to basic health care resources and basic health insurance services are more fair，efficient and accessible. The integration of basic medical insurance systems，as well as the level of medical insurance operation and management should be further enhanced to resolve the issues such as unequal distribution of medical resources.
