Study of Jiangsu Literature of the Republic China， began with the observation of Northern Jiangsu revolutionary base areas in 1980s， underwent several stages including reference collection， dissertation on the whole， study of “Jiangnan Literature”， at present arrived at the point of writing history of specific city literature. The research basically follows the development of academic history of contemporary Chinese literature， and a new history book based on lately found materials is urgently needed. Reason of the absence of such history may be dated back to the difficulties of studying local literature， such as the ambiguity of Jiangsu Literature， the division between academy and locality.
