中国文艺社1930年在南京成立,1935年改组,1938年西迁,1945年解散于重庆。改组前的中国文艺社以编辑《文艺月刊》为主,改组后,“交际夜”等联谊活动成为该社一大招牌。官方势力的介入,为中国文艺社的生存、发展提供了资源,作为交换,该社须为政府代言。官方背景令文艺社遭受质疑、诟病,然而,它也为文艺界团结抗战做出了重要贡献。逐渐体制化的文艺社坚持到了战争结束,但在这一过程中,由于当局不断收紧政策,它慢慢丧失活力,加之社内同仁及社外作家的离散、分流,文艺社最终走到了尽头。
